Who can submit videos? 

Any business, nonprofit or freelancer operating within a 50-mile radius of Tallahassee and employing less than 50 people can submit videos.

Please note that at this time, we are not posting videos submitted by local distributors of nationally branded products (e.g. essential oils, skincare, culinary tools, etc.). However, we are looking at ways to evolve the Learn from a Local concept and will let you know if this policy changes in the future. 


What kind of content are you looking for?

Your video should feature a local professional offering helpful advice or demonstrating a task, project or special skill. Think about knowledge or experience you have that might be useful to others. If you have an idea and aren’t sure it fits with the site, send us an email and we’ll talk it through with you.

Be sure to begin your video with a personal introduction and then proceed with your subject matter. Viewers want to see your face and hear your voice, so please do not submit videos that only feature music with text on the screen.


How long should my video be? 

Generally, videos should be short – around 3 to 5 minutes. However, if your topic requires a longer explanation, your video can last up to 15 minutes.


Can I use my cell phone to shoot my video?

Yes! Just be sure to position it horizontally.


What video formats will be accepted?

Only the following formats will be accepted: avi, mov, mp4, 3gp, webm and mkv.


How do I create a video?

All you need to create your video is a cell phone, a quiet, well-lit area, and a tripod or someone with a steady hand. Check out our “How-to” Guide for a few more tips.


How do I submit a video? 

First, upload your video to a file-sharing platform such as WeTransfer, Dropbox or Google Drive. If you use Dropbox or Google Drive, be sure to make the link to your file publicly accessible. You will share this link with us when you submit your video.

Next, you’ll need to create an account with us. Once you’ve created your account and completed your profile, simply click on “upload video” and complete the submission form. 


When will my video be published?

We review videos in the order we receive them – usually within 2 to 4 business days – and will notify you when your video has been posted. Please note that we reserve the right to decline any video for any reason. If we decline your video, we will notify you via email.   


Can I submit more than one video?

Yes! We encourage you to submit as many videos as you would like.


How are financial contributions distributed?    

We will mail you a check each month for the contributions you receive, minus the standard processing fee of 2.9% +$0.30 per contribution that our payment platform requires. You will receive the full amount of your contributions minus this fee. Learn from a Local does not keep any portion of the contributions you receive. 

We will only mail checks to those businesses and organizations that have received at least $50 in contributions for the given month. For those who receive less than $50 for the month, that money will be held until the following month, and until the $50 minimum threshold is met.


What if I don’t want to accept financial contributions?  

If you do not want to accept financial contributions, we will donate any contributions you receive to Second Harvest of the Big Bend, an organization that has been instrumental in feeding our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once you’ve created an account with us, simply check the appropriate box on your profile page to let us know that this is your preference.


How do I remove a video that I previously submitted?

Send us an email, and we’ll take care of it.
